Race 9 at Gulfstream Park | Saturday, January 25 | Post Time 3:36 PM Eastern Time

Inside Information Stakes – Grade 2 | Purse $200,000 | Seven Furlongs | Fillies and Mares, Four Years Old and Upward

The early pace scenario in this race should be VERY HOT and CONTESTED, with Blamed having had the lead from the start in her last five sprints, including when winning the Royal Delta Stakes over the track in February, and at the least with Liza Star (1) getting the rail and having had the lead at the start in her last four races. Then there's J P's Delight (4), who is a perfect three-for-three to date but who led from start to finish in her first two starts and who was only a half-length off the early lead in her most recent race. Bronx Beauty (8) has a lot of early lick, as does Heavenhasmynikki (who is taking blinkers off), and Our Super Freak (12) pressed the pace in each of her last three races. A Bit of Both (10) didn't see the lead early last month in the Sugar Swirl but is another who has earned wins leading from start to finish. Nonna Madeline (6) wired the field over the track last month when returning from 14 months off so it may have been she was "fresh" or that may be her running style. I'll have more to say about her later.

All that early speed sets the race up nicely for stalker Wildwood's Beauty (2), deep closer Pink Sands (11) and Spiced Perfection (7), with a look going to Nonna Madeline (6) if she can come from mid-pack as she did in her career debut win in the summer of 2018. I'll give Wildwood's Beauty top billing, however, because she's highly probable to be in the exacta if she doesn't win. She's NEVER been worse than second in 10 career dirt races, including four at this seven furlong trip. Five of those were on the Gulfstream main track. She was no match for J P's Delight last month in a stakes at Tampa when beaten two and three-quarter lengths, but as I wrote in the opening paragraph J P's Delight won't get an easy lead or a slow pace today so that gives Wildwood's Beauty a big shot to turn the tables on her foe, particularly with the jockey change to red hot Julien Leparoux. When winning the seven furlong Sheer Drama Stakes in September over the track, Wildwood's Beauty earned a career best 103 Equibase figure she's well in range of duplicating or improving upon from the 99 figure earned in the stakes last month, and as a newly turned four year old with upside.

Nonna Madeline (6) earned a 99 figure after returning from 14 months off. Logically tossing out her fifth place effort in the Frizette Stakes to end her two year old campaign, as that led to the layoff, she's done nothing wrong, easily winning her debut then finishing second in the Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga. She rated off the pace in both those races and she doesn't wear blinkers so she should be able to relax and have a big say in the outcome here.

Pink Sands (11) will be last early and rolling late. She's three for four at Gulfstream with Jose Ortiz in the saddle for ALL three of those wins as today. She only managed fourth in last year's running of this race but she enters the race off a win in the Rampart Stakes at a mile last month and the cut back helps sharpen her closing kick so she can improve off the 97 figure earned in that effort.

Spiced Perfection (7) ships cross-country for the strong Miller barn after scratching out of the two-turn La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita to run in this one turn race. She wired the field last month in the Go For Wand, at a mile just like Pink Sands last start, and she's won three of eight at this seven furlong trip, almost all from off the pace such as when taking the Madison Stakes last spring at Keeneland with a101 figure. Castellano has been aboard for her last three wins and rides back so it would be a grave mistake to leave her off any exacta, trifecta, or pick 3 or 4 tickets played involving this race. That being said, she opens as the heavy favorite and is not any more probable to win than either of the three previously mentioned win contenders.

Betting Strategies:

Win Bets: Wildwood's Beauty (2) to win at odds of 3 to 1 or more.

You can absolutely consider win bets on Nonna Madeline (6) and on Pink Sands (11) at odds of 4 to 1 or more.

Because I'm very confident Wildwood's Beauty (2) can be first or second, the first exacta play will be a pair of tickets:

Wildwood's Beauty (2) over ALL and then the opposite, which is ALL over Wildwood's Beauty

Then, play an exacta box of Wildwood's Beauty (2), Nonna Madeline (6), Spiced Perfection (7) and Pink Sands (11).

You can also play a four horse trifecta box consisting of the same horses.
